How Clean Is Your PHONE?????

In the current climate we are washing our hands and cleaning surfaces more than ever.  I know that the door knobs in my house have never been cleaner!  But there is one item that is often overlooked, that never leaves our side, that touches everything our hands touch, our smartphones.  Perhaps you saw my FaceBook live?  If you didn’t you can find it on our Facebook page or here:  .  You can also find it in our new private Facebook group, Care More Chiro Community.

Did you know that according to a 2011 study done by researchers at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Med, fecal matter is found on 1 out of every 6 smartphones?  Other studies have found serious pathogens such as Strepococcus, MRSA– which is a type of bacteria that is resistant to several antibiotics – and even E. coli on smartphones.

To put this in another perspective, research shows that a public bathroom toilet seat is cleaner than most phones….   Ewwwwwww…….  Grosssssss…….

On average, Americans check their phone once every 12 minutes – burying their heads in their phones 80 times a day, according to Asurion, a global tech protection company.  I’m guessing that in the current climate of social distancing, its even higher!

So what can we do to clean our phones?   The following information is found on the Apple support website regarding disinfecting Apple phones.

“Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe
the exterior surfaces of your iPhone. Don't use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any openings, and
don't submerge your iPhone in any cleaning agents.”

There is another option.  There are devices that use UV light to disinfect and clean phones and other small items. Care More Chiropractic purchased one of these on Amazon and patients are allowed to use it when they come in for a Scheduled Appointment, provided that it is not in use.  There is NO CHARGE for this service—it’s just a little extra that we are providing our patients because we Care More!

To Clean Phones!

Dr. Kristen
