5 Tips to Successful Resolutions

It’s that time of year—the holidays have come and gone, and people have set their sights on the future.   It’s that time when people start to focus on their New Years Resolutions.   Studies show that just 8% of people actually accomplish their New Year’s Resolution.   If you’re anything like me, you have a long list of failed New Years Resolutions that have fallen by the wayside.   Make 2020 the year that changes!   Here are the 5 tips to make this year different.   Set SMART Goals   A SMART goal is based on an acronym:  Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistc, and Timeframe.  A goal made with these components in mind is a key component to being successful, however this isn’t the only thing.  It takes more than setting a SMART goal to be successful.      2.   Be Committed   Often people say they want to accomplish something, but when the rubber meets the road, they aren’t willing to do what i...

I have a Dream...

As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King and his legacy, it’s important to think about some of the messages that he gave us.   First, he had a dream.   Dr. King shouted it from the mountain tops, shared it with the world, and his dream helped to change the world.   In a lifetime we have seen our country change for the better!   But my purpose here isn’t to talk politics—but about dreams.   We should all have dreams!   What are your dreams?   Health?   Financial Freedom?   Love? Family?   Education?   Cars?   Homes? A great tool for helping realize your dreams are Vision Boards.   It is literally a board covered in images that represents your dreams—what you want to be, do, or have in your life.   What are your dreams?   Have you made a Vision Board?   Want to make a Vision Board?   We at Care More are committed to helping you realize all of your dreams!   Join us at Care More on Wed J...
The American Health Care System is primarily a disease care system.   In 2009, $2.1 trillion dollars was spent in the United States on Medical Care.   This represents 16.5% of the Gross National Product.   Of these trillions of dollars, 95 cents of every dollar was spent to treat disease AFTER it had already occurred.   At least 75% of these dollars were spent on treating chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and obesity.   These can be preventable and even reversible! What can you do to improve your overall health in 2012? 1.      Get Moving!   We all need to be moving—30 minutes per day!   2.      Massage therapy—a great way to keep our bodies limber and reduce stress.   In today’s fast paced world it is necessity!   Ask about our Massage Club!   3.      Improve your nutrition!   Eat more Fresh Fruits and Vegetables—7-9 servings per d...

How did I do?

In January I challenged myself to 11 in 11. I blogged about my goals and shared them here. I want to take a few minutes to see how I did. My Goals were: 1. Reduce my “Carbon Footprint.” 2. Give back to the community. 3. Eat Healthy -Eat “Green” food (locally grown) -Eat More Veggies 4. Return to my ideal weight 5. Blog at least 4 times per month 6. Complete 1 project on my house per month 7. Take a photography class 8. Cross 2 things off my “Bucket List” 9. Start each day my praying/meditating/reading 10. Read 4 “Classic” books this year 11. Exercise 3 times per week So how did I do? 1. I have reduced my carbon foot print! I’ve recycled, used re-usable bags! I’ve made a difference. I’m giving this one a thumbs up. I can do more, but I am off to a good start. 2. Give back to the community. Yes, I’ve given back, I’ve donated food, and again we’re hosting our Food Drive. Then I did something a little different, something I that wasn’t even on the radar this time last ...

It's all in the Plan!

New Years is around the corner. New Year’s Day is a day of new beginnings, out with the old, in with the new… As we usher in 2012, many of us will choose to make resolutions, to set goals that we plan to accomplish in 2012. Many will choose to quit a bad habit, adopt new healthy lifestyle changes or begin fitness challenges. Realistically, how long will they last? According to the New York Times, “Research shows that about 80% of people who make Resolutions on Jan 1st fall off the wagon by Valentines Day.” If you’re planning your 2012 resolutions or goals, here are some ideas that might help. First, set S.M.A.R.T. goals. What are SMART goals? Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Why goals? Goals have a plan, while with resolutions there are no plans, no accountability, no action steps. However, if you set SMART goals, you will have a plan. Remember, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail! So make a plan! Second, remember it takes at least 21 days to cha...
