New Years is around the corner. New Year’s Day is a day of new beginnings, out with the old, in with the new… As we usher in 2012, many of us will choose to make resolutions, to set goals that we plan to accomplish in 2012. Many will choose to quit a bad habit, adopt new healthy lifestyle changes or begin fitness challenges. Realistically, how long will they last? According to the New York Times, “Research shows that about 80% of people who make Resolutions on Jan 1st fall off the wagon by Valentines Day.” If you’re planning your 2012 resolutions or goals, here are some ideas that might help. First, set S.M.A.R.T. goals. What are SMART goals? Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Why goals? Goals have a plan, while with resolutions there are no plans, no accountability, no action steps. However, if you set SMART goals, you will have a plan.
