Why Sitting Is the New Smoking (And What It’s Doing to Your Spine)

If you’ve heard the phrase “sitting is the new smoking,” it’s not just a catchy headline—it’s a clinical reality I’ve seen play out over 25 years in practice. Let’s break down what’s actually happening—and what you can do about it. Looking for a Chiropractor in Roswell, GA?   Many people wait until the pain becomes unbearable before seeing a chiropractor. But the truth is, your body often gives early warning signs that something isn’t functioning the way it should. At Care More Chiropractic in Roswell, Georgia, we help patients recognize those signs early—so they can address the root cause, not just the symptoms. If you’ve been wondering whether it’s time to see a chiropractor, here are some of the most common signs to look for. 1. Persistent Neck or Back Pain This is one of the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care. If you’re experiencing: Ongoing stiffness Sharp or dull discomfort Pain that worsens with movement …it may indicate restricted spinal motion or irritation affecting the nervous system. 2. Frequent Headaches or Migraines Many headaches actually originate from the neck. Poor posture, stress, and tension can contribute to: Tension headaches Migraines Pressure at the base of the skull Improving spinal movement and reducing tension...

Tech neck is a new name for a condition that’s been around for years—neck pain that is caused by repetitive strain and injury to the muscles and other structures in the cervical spine.   Do you experience neck pain?   Headaches?   Jaw Pain? Constantly looking at our technology—such as computers, laptops, cell phones—can result in a repetitive stress/strain injury to the cervical spine and it’s supporting structures.   This condition is     c...

Holiday Tips

Parties, presents, family, and friends...  We are in the middle of the holiday season...  While this time of year is full of reasons for good cheer, the added stress of the season can test the limits of your body.  Research shows that stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices contribute to our nation's health challenges--this includes diabetes, heart disease and obesity.  This same stress can also manifest as headaches, neck and back pain.  A specific chiropractic adjustment can not only alleviate the pain, but it also allows the body to function at 100%.  Throughout this holiday season I will be writing additional posts to help you deal with challenges that often arise during the holiday season.  Please follow my blog so you're sure to get all the tips!  Also, Like Care More Chiropractic on Facebook as additional tips will be posted there.  Enjoy your holiday season!  In Health, Dr. K

May is Posture Awareness Month!

May is National Posture Awareness Month.   My experience is that every time I say something about “posture” I immediately see a change—people sit up straighter and uncross their legs.   We all know we should have “correct posture” (I still hear mom saying no slouching!) but do you really know why posture is so important?   What is “correct posture?”    How important is my posture???   Are there exercises I can do to help my posture?     During the month of May, watch my Blog for the answers to these questions and more.   Do you have a posture question you’d like to see answered???   Let me know and I will answer your questions! In the meantime—Straighten Up for the health of it!   Dr. K

Vision Boards

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”   Walt Disney What are your dreams?   Your hopes?   Your desires?   We all have them—that secret dream that thought, that wish of what we want to do or who we want to become today, this year, in our lifetime…   One of the many tools to help manifest these dreams is a Vision Board.   Vision Boards have been used for years; however, they have become more popular in recent years due to media surrounding the movie The Secret and Oprah Winfrey’s show, website, and magazine.   In a nutshell, a Vision Board is a collage of images and words of things you want to attract into your life or become.   It can be things you would like to have, where you want to live, vacation, or who you want to become, do, or be.   How does it work?   A vision bard works by activating the Laws of Attraction, which simply means that we attract anything we give our attention to.   The Law of Attraction is a U...
The American Health Care System is primarily a disease care system.   In 2009, $2.1 trillion dollars was spent in the United States on Medical Care.   This represents 16.5% of the Gross National Product.   Of these trillions of dollars, 95 cents of every dollar was spent to treat disease AFTER it had already occurred.   At least 75% of these dollars were spent on treating chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and obesity.   These can be preventable and even reversible! What can you do to improve your overall health in 2012? 1.      Get Moving!   We all need to be moving—30 minutes per day!   2.      Massage therapy—a great way to keep our bodies limber and reduce stress.   In today’s fast paced world it is necessity!   Ask about our Massage Club!   3.      Improve your nutrition!   Eat more Fresh Fruits and Vegetables—7-9 servings per d...

It's all in the Plan!

New Years is around the corner. New Year’s Day is a day of new beginnings, out with the old, in with the new… As we usher in 2012, many of us will choose to make resolutions, to set goals that we plan to accomplish in 2012. Many will choose to quit a bad habit, adopt new healthy lifestyle changes or begin fitness challenges. Realistically, how long will they last? According to the New York Times, “Research shows that about 80% of people who make Resolutions on Jan 1st fall off the wagon by Valentines Day.” If you’re planning your 2012 resolutions or goals, here are some ideas that might help. First, set S.M.A.R.T. goals. What are SMART goals? Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Why goals? Goals have a plan, while with resolutions there are no plans, no accountability, no action steps. However, if you set SMART goals, you will have a plan. Remember, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail! So make a plan! Second, remember it takes at least 21 days to cha...
